UPDATE: The winner of this giveaway is #15, Janet!

I’m sure this never happens to you.

You sit down to work on a layout for a special event or memory. You have the cutest photos and perfect embellishments to work with. But the ideas? You’ve got nothin’. Or better yet. You walk by your scrap table, feel a tug, but something more important or appealing suddenly surpasses the feeling.

Scapblock. It happens to the best of us. I for one am always inspired by other scrapbookers, one of the reason I regularly attend a crop of 75ish women.

chicken soup for the scrapbookers soul

In true “Chicken Soup” style, Chicken Soup for the Scrapbooker’s Soul has compiled a plethora of inspirational stories from real scrapbookers. Take a listen…

I have a fear. I fear forgetting, not having my memory someday. I cry as I write this–and I don’t cry easily. So many of my scrapbooking friends say they are scrapping for their children and grandchildren. I do, too, but honestly, I am also scrapping for myself–because I am afraid of forgetting.

I realiize that one day my own life will change through job opportunities, marriage and having children. My kids will know me only as their mom, probably an old, boring mom at that! If it weren’t for my scrapbooks, maybe they wouldn’t know that I once went white-water rafting, parasailing and skydiving way before they were even a notion.

My Dad passed away 11 years ago. After he died, my mom gave me all of his olod slides. Now I am putting all those pictures, captions and stories into a scrapbook about Dad. I pulled out the first tray and sadness folooded my heart. I took off the top and there was a pieces of paper, folded, lying inside. I opened the paper and it was in my dad’s handwriting. Tears welled up in my eyes. His story was not lost after all; it was just contained in a boxful of slides.
